Home Meditation Space by Thich Nhat Hanh Part 5

Home Meditation Space by Thich Nhat Hanh Part 5

One of the most important ways you can transform your home space is to make a place to sit. Creating a peaceful sitting area can transform the atmosphere of your whole house. This is also an important way to support your meditation practice.

If we sit in the same place each day, it takes less time to remember to stop and return to our breath. Here in this place, our bodies and minds can help each other relax.

Ideally, this place will be one set aside just for sitting and conscious breathing, not the same armchair you use for reading, or the couch where you sit with friends and family members.

Sit just to enjoy your sitting; you don't need to attain any goal.  Each moment of sitting meditation brings you back to life.

Thich Nhat Hanh Mala ?

I think it would be a wonderful idea to create a Thich Nhat Hanh Mala Necklace like the one I
roughly photoshopped above.  I would cherish mine as I do his pendant..
Just an idea...

Peace in oneself, peace in the world..

Recollection of the Buddha by Thich Nhat Hanh

The practice I would like to show you is called Recollection of the Buddha and it is taught in every school of Buddhism.
Sit down quietly, breathe in and out for a few minutes to calm yourself, and then ask,
"Little Buddha, are you there?"
Ask the question very deeply and quietly. In the beginning you may not hear an answer.  There is always an answer, but if you are not calm enough, you won't hear it.
"Little Buddha, are you there?"
And then one day you will the voice of your little Buddha answering,
"Yes, my dear, of course. I am always here for you."
Hearing this you smile. "I know, little Buddha,  you are my calm. I know you are always there, and I need you to help me be calm... I shout and act as if I don't have A Buddha in me. Thankyou little Buddha I need you to be there."
The little Buddha says, "Of course I'll be here for you all the time. Just come iniside and visit me when you need to."
That is the practice of touching the Buddha inside. It's a very important practice for all of us.

If you lose your peace and joy, remember if you touch the Buddha inside you, you will continue to grow.
You can say to the Buddha inside of you, "Dear Little Buddha, you are my freshness, thankyou for being there.
Dear Little Buddha, you are my tenderness, thankyou for being there.
Dear Little Buddha, you are my mindfulness."
Everytime you visit the Buddha, the Buddha in you will grow stronger.
Everytime your practice touching the Buddha, you bring in a lot of space and air, and the Buddha within you has a chance to grow.
It's very important. If you practice touching these qualities of the Buddha in you,
you are touching the real Buddha.

Home Meditation Space by Thich Nhat Hanh Part 4

BREATHING

We can use reminders to help us stop during the day.
When you've set up a reminder to help you stop - whether it's an altar, the chimes of a clock, a bell, a sitting corner, or a picture on the wall - don't forget to breathe.
Some people even use the sound of birds singing, dogs barking, an airplace flying overhead, or a siren as reminders. You can hang a sign on the wall that says 'Breathe' or download the sound of a bell to your computer or your phone, and set it to ring every so often.
Even if you only stop and focus on your breathing for a few breaths, or for a minute or two
it is very valuable.
